Facebook and whatsapp have discontinued support for Blackberry which will lead users to use mobile website of the social network. Lou Gazzola, Blackberry Senior Marketing Manager announced the news in the blogpost


” We are extremely disappointed in their decision as we know so many users love these apps. We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds, but at this time, their decision stands.” Gozzola Wrote

Despite this, we have worked hard to ensure our end users have the best experience in light of this decision, and are continuing to search for alternate solutions.”

Gazzola said Facebook is discontinuing support for its essential API’s which means that 3rd party app will stop functioning. It is unclear right yet at what point Facebook plans to do this.

BlackBerry has faced a decline in recent years. While Android and Apple account for 58 percent and 39 percent of smartphone sales in the US, BlackBerry falls under the unfortunate “other” category, which accounts for 0.1 percent of sales.
