Apple considered that it is the right time to start Geo-location emergency. iPhone’s iOS new update will now be able to automatically send out the position of its users during emergency calls. In fact, the majority of calls to 911 are made with a smartphone in a critical situation. Emergency location sharing helps to find someone when they make an urgent call.
The process which the company is going to used is called as HELO protocol (Hybridized Emergency Location) that lets people share their place robotically. The system was launched by The Cupertino Company in majority of 911 emergency call centers in 2015. Apple will apply technology developed by the company Rapid-SOS to share data of the person with 911 call centers within no time. The company also said that the data cannot be used for irrelevant reasons and will only be available to the 911 center during an emergency call.
RapidSOS CEO Michael Martin said: “We are excited to work with Apple to provide first responders a new path for accurate, device-based caller location using 911 technology.”
In apress release, the company announced about the new update. The feature is available in the United States with the 911 emergency number for now and there is nothing designed for other regions so far.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook in a press announcement published today said: “Communities rely on 911 centers in an emergency, and we believe they should have the best available technology at their disposal,” also“When every moment counts, these tools will help first responders reach our customers when they most need assistance.”
An irregular availability of your location is already being shared by Apple using triangulation from cell sites, GPS and Wi-Fi hotspots. On the other hand HELO likely to have a significantly larger edge of error, particularly in crowded cities that might disturb GPS. The updated feature in iOS 12 possibly will make sure that emergency squad arrives just where you call for them.
Apple’s iOS 12 mobile operating system will be available in this fall with the updated version and several new features and improvements.
