Amazon has finally brought new feature that is the ultimate solution to all the DIYers who spend hours looking for the right screw that will go in the right place and hole. The biggest online shopping service has become so handy that it can make it easy to get anything people need to buy. A nightmare for online shopping ends with the new feature.
Amazon’s mobile app is AR platform which now have ability to measure things in the real world using nothing but your smartphone’s camera. It consists of a new feature, Part Finder, which recognize bolts, nuts, and small washers in the toolbox. After recognition, the app returns the references of the object, which then allows ordering on Amazon at the end.
This feature uses augmented reality capabilities for the identification of screws as the Verge reported. The user must, however, respect the instructions for use: it is indeed necessary to put the bolt or nut on a neutral surface for better spotting process, it is also important to position the object to be recognized in a certain way and to align the whole with the camera of the smartphone. It is important to place a coin next to it.
The application will also ask for information regarding the shape of the screw head. The work performed by this function is to measure the object and cross these data with those entered by the user to find the reference required. In fact this monotonous process is faster rather than going to the nearest DIY store.
It also remains an appealing case of the input of augmented reality to accomplish an everyday task while being handy. Part Finder is the result of Amazon’s acquisition of the start-up Partpic in 2016. It is in the operation phase in the iOS app whereas it is not yet the case on Android.
