Samsung has informed its users that a bug in a smartphone has been secretly sending out private photos to contacts added in the devices, also some owners are reporting about it to the company. The company is investigating the issue happening in some Galaxy Smartphone’s whose texting randomly to contacts. The issue was highlighted through update posted on Reddit and Samsung’s official forums on Tuesday.
The bug is affecting recent handsets which include the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9, with the trouble emerging from the default app for sending Messages. Some reports say some users have seen the default messaging app making disturbance without their knowledge. Its weird bug making troubles by leaving users on the rim of embarrassment.
“Samsung has reviewed this matter thoroughly these past few days; however, there were no hardware or software issues found to be relevant to this particular case,” Samsung made a statement. “We are aware of the reports regarding this matter and our technical teams are looking into it. Concerned customers are encouraged to contact us directly.”
Some users have reported that person images plus entire picture galleries have been sent to random contacts through SMS app. One of the users claims that the Samsung phone has sent the entire photo gallery to his girlfriend. Another one from Reddit reported that the device had sent photos to his wife.
The issue is confirmed to be affecting S9 devices, yet it is not reported if other devices are being affected or not. Samsung said, “We are aware of the reports regarding this matter and our technical teams are looking into it. Concerned customers are encouraged to contact us directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG.”
The interesting part about this bug is that there is no evidence in the phone about the photos being sent out, the Reddit user said. However, a record is present in T-Mobile logs that the photos were sent. The problem appearing on Reddit and official Samsung customer forums could be because of the recent messaging update Reddit done for new features. Therefore, the company said that there is no issue in it.
Users are advised to use other applications like WhatsApp and other messengers for sending messages instead of the default app also postpone access to a phone’s storage in the Samsung Messages app in order to prevent any files sending problem.
