Yesterday, Hulu and Discovery announced their collaboration with one another, the pact is to bring Discovery’s live and on-demand programming to Hulu’s streaming service, 4000 episodes of Discovery’s shows added to Hulu’s on-demand library, Plus five channels like Discovery Channel, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Motor Trend, the rebranded Velocity network, and Animal Planet will add to Hulu’s live TV streaming service.
Both the companies were considering this agreement long before Hulu launched its live TV streaming service in May 2017. Moreover, the news channels will begin to stream live in December, they had also joined other channels, HGTV, Food Network, and Travel Channel. It had already been involved in an agreement with Scripps Networks, which is now purchased by Discovery for $14.6 Billion.
Eric Phillips, President of Affiliate Distribution at Discovery, said in a statement, “At Discovery, we are committed to bringing our portfolio of high-quality, safe family friendly brands and content to viewers across every screen, service and device around the world, Our new agreement with Hulu affirms the strength of our brands and their value to viewers in a marketplace with an increasing array of options.”
Under the agreement, all the Hulu subscribers will be able to watch several unscripted Discovery shows including Deadliest Catch, MythBusters, Say Yes to the Dress, Naked and Afraid, Property Brothers, Gold Rush, Street Outlaws, Chopped, Chopped Jr., Fixer Upper, House Hunters, and House Hunters International.
Besides the partnership with Discovery, Hulu gets a license agreement with OWN which is the part of Discovery Networks family and will bring four top shows to Hulu. It includes all episodes of Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots, If Loving You is Wrong, The Paynes and Love Thy Neighbor. Regradless of the addition of the new show the best thing is that Hulu prices remain the same, it is $40 per month for cable TV service.
Too, it includes Hulu originals and on-demand programming, the package of on-demand programming starts from at $8 per month and increase up to $12 for the ad-free plan.
