The separate app was launched in 2015 which is dedicated to games and help gamers to find videos. Youtube said on Tuesday they are integrating some of its best features into new gaming destination on its main website. The company wants to end the Andriod and iOS app in March 2019 and to improve the gaming offerings on the Youtube site.
The Youtube gaming consists of live streams and archived videos of tens of thousands of games each with their own page, both on App and desktop version. There is another feature where you can live chat with other gamers and also users can go after video recommendations based on their favorite games. From now onwards, Youtube gaming section will present a personalized carousel of content at the top of the page, it includes new updates, live streams from subscribed channels and trending videos.
The new gaming destination will now have additional bells and whistles, Games have their own page that shows popular videos, live streams, and other several games created by the developers. Users can individually subscribe to these game pages. In its recent post, Youtube said they have a strong and massive audience for the gaming app, around 200 million people visit the site on the daily basis, only a few of them were not downloading the app.
Ryan Wyatt, YouTube’s director of gaming content and partnerships, tells The Verge, “When we launched the YouTube gaming app, I think there was a lot of brand confusion in the market of like, Well, is this just a live gaming app and experience? What’s gonna happen to gaming on YouTube versus YouTube gaming app? And so we’re hoping that this time around, with us moving it to YouTube [proper], it’s a clear signal to the community that we care very much about gaming, that we want gaming on YouTube … to continue to thrive and be a big part. I think we had a big misstep and confusion there.”
Google developers test the new feature for Youtube gaming app that included, Super Chat, Channel Memberships to help fans show support for their favorite creators, and Dark Theme. Users reaction is positive so they have transferred from the gaming app to main YouTube experience.
