Last night, Rivian conducted an Autoshow at Los Angeles and unveiled its first vehicle which was an all-electric truck called R1T. Today, Michigan-based automotive EV startup Rivian is following up with a second vehicle which is all-electric SUV built on the same platform. The SUV version is called R1S it is a seven-seat vehicle which shares almost same specs and features with the R1T truck.
It operates on quad electric motors which goes to 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds, The base model starting at $72,500 and pre-ordering will start this week with a $1,000 deposit required. It will be available in three battery packs variants, starting with 105kWh version capable of about 240 miles of range, a 135kWh variant that can last for almost 310 miles, and a top-of-the-line option with 180kWh of capacity, pushing the range over 410 miles.
Rivian SUV is as fast as its Sibling all-electric truck with the base model goes up to 60 miles per hour in 4.9 seconds Whereas the two higher-spec models goes up to that speed in just 3 seconds. Moving On, the base model will have 400 horsepower, while the 135kWh version will have 750 horsepower. The number drops to 700 horsepower in the 180kWh version of the R1S.
Inside the SUV, the vehicle has three touchscreens, First a 15.6-inch touchscreen is present which occupies a huge portion of the dashboard. A second 12.3-inch screen presents behind the steering wheel, the third one is a 12.3-inch screen sits behind the steering wheel. According to the company, The Rivian SUV is equipped with sensors which are capable of allowing the SUV vehicle to drive itself in certain extreme situations.
It is anticipated that in Late 2020, the R1S vehicle will be a bit more expensive than Rivian’s pickup truck.
