After a year and a half, Spotify has now decided to work on its plan to make an Official Apple watch app. The streaming music company has released a beta test version for its iOS users which includes a companion app for Apple smartwatch. The first version appears to be limited just to control playback from your phone.
It is not clear whether the company is planning to add much needed online support so that the premium subscribers would be able to synchronize the songs to Apple watch and can be operated without having an iPhone nearby. From now on, you have to set aside your desires to listen to an offline playlist when you are out of your home. Still, there is time in completion of Apple Watch app, Spotify is working closely with the developers of the unofficial Snowy app that brings offline Spotify playback to the Apple watch.
A few of the Reddit users participated in a Public beta testing program and posted pictures of the app’s icon, playback controls, and recently played list with a toggle for shuffle mode.
Andrew Chang who is the Snowy App developer revealed last year that Spotify had hired him to create a companion app using the company’s iOS SDK. This was the first prediction that Apple Watch app is coming. Over the past year, a number of high profile apps have removed from the app,Google and Amazon both removed their Apple Watch apps, and Instagram and Twitter disappeared too.
“We’re always testing new products and experiences, but have no further news to share at this time,” says a Spotify spokesperson in a statement toThe Verge.
This official Spotify app is considered as a new way to Apple watch, Spotify has not commented yet when the app will be released.
