Chinese video sensation TikTok surpassed Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat as the most downloaded app in the month of September for the first time. The company this year has merged Musical.ly with its own app TikTok in order to recognized in the U.S market.
According to data from app intelligence firm Sensor Tower, TikTok downloads were higher than the other social media apps in the U.S last month. It also exceeds four other apps in terms of daily downloads on September 29, with 29.7 percent of the downloads from this cohort of apps. Since then, it has continued to grow its share by increasing as high as 42.4 percent among this group of apps.
In September, TikTok installs increased around 31 percent and within months it reaches approximately 3.81 million on App store and Google Play combined by beating Facebook who is on number 2 with 3.53 million first-time installs. In October 2017, Tiktok U.S installs go up to 237 percent from 1.13 million. Another App researcher Apptopia reports similar findings, in terms of the app downloaded by the users.
But the app opening rate was still behind the rest of the app like Facebook, Youtube, Snapchat and Instagram. Apptopia said TikTok has 29 percent rate of engagement compared with Facebook’s 96 percent, Instagram’s 95 percent, Snapchat’s 95 percent, and YouTube’s 95 percent.
Followed by the download rate, TikTok app recorded a Global monthly active user count of 500 million in 150 countries and regions. It is the same time when Instagram reached to one billion monthly active users. Well, TikTok surpassed all other groups of apps which previously was on the top like Facebook who is on No. 7 and Messenger on No. 5 as it sits in the No. 4 position. But it’s behind YouTube No. 1, Instagram No. 2 and Snapchat on No. 3 respectively.
