Apart from its big partnerships with Microsoft and Facebook Xiaomi is known for simple, inexpensive handsets and devices. Now the company’s latest effort is particularly interesting which is the Airpods style wireless earbuds called Airdots for under $30, available from 11th of November. It offers the same features and functionality as Apple $159 Airpods which includes tapping control and compact charging case.
Unlike Airpods the Airdots have silicon tips which allow better sound isolation, a more secure fit and they also support Bluetooth 5.0. Which means they do not draw much power while maintaining a better connection too. To further fuel the comparison Xiaomi Airdots comes in a white and tout a minimal design, the charging case is of course made up of plastic.
The Xiaomi Airdots can last up to five hours with mono audio and 4 hours in stereo, with additional battery charging the life extends up to 12 hours. Moreover, the company have recently launched it in Ireland and plans to launch it in the UK as well. It is possible that in near time we will see Airdots the original selling product in both countries.
It is available for pre-orders in China at 199 yuan, it is hard to believe that Airdots will match Airpods in terms of audio quality or performance reliability. Whereas Oppo O-free wireless earbuds are the only product so far which offers maximum Airpods like experience, it sells for 699 yuan which makes about $100. One thing is clear that wireless headphones technology can bring down the Era of handsfree.
Xiaomi also announced a $15 wireless charger earlier in the year, now it is included in the package of new Mi mix 3 phone. This similar technology was also seen in Audio-Technica’s ATH-CKR7TW wireless headphones and Jabra’s Elite 65t. However, Xiaomi seems to have dropped premium features like noise-cancellation and water-resistance.
