Uber who is the premium name in Ride-hailing apps wants to expand their business by growing its share in booming electric scooter rental business. The company may have decided to take a leadership position in the market is to acquire the leaders. According to The information, Uber has involved in some talks with the Bird and Lime on a possible “multibillion-dollar” acquisition for Scooter-sharing startup, bird and Lime the two biggest name in Scooter sharing.
This step will definitely help Uber in tackling Scooter shortages plus there is no guarantee now that a deal could happen between the companies. But Uber could acquire one of those company by the end of 2018. The company already owns a minor share in Lime, the partnership takes place between the two companies in this Summer when they brought electric scooters to Uber’s app for the first time.
Lime and Uber declined to comment on this matter, The information said that Uber is trying to secure a deal which means the negotiations are already in progress. Without denying the news the Bird CEO Travis VanderZanden has told the reporters that Bird is not for sale, which may or may not hint towards the deal. On the other hand, a Spokeswomen didn’t even say that the company has not involved in talks with Uber.
Obviously, there is pressure on Uber as the Lyft’s scooter business also completed its buyout of Citi Bike operator Motivate which has now become the largest bike sharing network in the US. If Uber wants to renowned as a good transportation service then they must have to expand its non-car offerings and accelerate Scooter-sharing startup. The purchase of Bird or Lime could give Uber a wide opportunity to increase its network.
