According to the latest news, Apple is testing the sleep monitor for future versions of its smartwatch, which will provide more support for the company in the health and wellness tracking market.
From last few months, the R&D team of the company has been using sleep monitoring with testers at undisclosed places near the Cupertino headquarters in California reported by Bloomberg.
If the feature becomes successful during the testing phase, the company plans to add it to Apple Watch by 2020. Since 2016, they have released a new version of Apple Watch every fall, and launched its fourth generation last year.
Sleep monitoring on Apple Watches may cut down some of the advantages that wearer competitor Fitbit already has. The company Fitbit, already has sleep monitoring abilities in equipment.
This new watch is not the first time the makers have entered in the field of sleep monitoring hardware. In May 2017, Apple acquired the Finnish technology startup Beddit, which produces sleep monitoring sensors. At the end of last year, Apple sold the product under the Beddit brand on its website and released the latest invention of products.
Apple Watch has become one of the most popular smart watches in the market, since its launch in April 2015. However, in this category in 2018 Apple’s wearable, home and accessories category has made revenues of $17.4 billion in the market, as compared to $164.9 billion in smartphones.
As the slowed down sales growth of the iPhone, they are bringing in a large number of additional hardware devices including Apple Watch to investors. The company believes that these devices will get more growth opportunities to them.
As reported by the technology market research firm Strategy Analytics estimates that the company has shipped 4.5 million in the third quarter of last year, while gaining a 45% market share. On the other hand the company has not disclosed how many watches it has sold.
