Fitbit has revealed its latest activity tracker and they are a bit change from its previous devices. The company on Friday announced that it is available only for the corporate employees and health insurance members. The new inspire model and Inspire HR trackers are Fitbit’s first business-to-business venture, and will only be available through Fitbit health solutions.
The new inspire model tracks sleep, activity, and calories burned, among other information. While the HR tracker comes with heart rate, sleep cycle, and cardio fitness level tracking. Both the models were not released with much hype and attention so it is not clear yet when will these trackers become available.
The idea behind availability to only Corporate and health insurance employees is to offer a fully subsidized wearable that helps the company dig deeper into the corporate and business worlds. The new devices are available as a wristband with an option of a clip. Moreover, in an interview with CNBC, CEO James Park said that currently, the company has 6.8 million users on wellness programs include Fitbit devices via employers, health plans or hospital programs.
The company wants to grow a relationship between activity trackers and the healthcare industry. For instance, the Apple watch is continuously doing efforts to build its reputation as a health device, adding an ECG app and often touting its fitness tracking aspects. By working directly with a healthcare company in order to achieve its goal while allowing the Fitbit to reach more potential customers.
CNBC also reports that the company is working on software which will allow employees of its company partners to track their health and make healthy changes accordingly. Fitbit website points out that having a health tracker can help to stimulate healthy behaviors as an incentive for health plan providers. It seems like health trackers going to have a bright future as they expand within the health plan industry.
