Instagram bug causes

Today, Instagram confirmed that an issue which has been causing amounts of the followers to decrease. Users already noticed the Instagram bug causes the drastic drop of followers within 10 hours some users even think that Instagram culling inactive and fake accounts, as part of its fight against spam.

“We’re aware of an issue that is causing a change in account follower numbers for some people right now. We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible,” the company said in a post on Twitter this morning.

Popular YouTube creators including James Charles and Zach Clayton, who each have millions of Instagram followers begin tweeting from the night as they had encountered the issue. Other famous Instagram users including celebrities like Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez, saw a reduction of followers in the millions.

Another report from the Fast Company in which they suggested that Instagram take some actions to remove millions of accounts which they think is fake or unauthentic. It is not clear yet whether the case following Instagram tweet about the problem. Many companies like Facebook, Instagram do cause this periodic shed of followers to remove spam and inactive accounts.

In November, the company announced that they will start to reduce the number of unauthentic accounts on the platform.

“We will begin removing inauthentic likes, follows and comments from accounts that use third-party apps to boost their popularity,” a blog post from November reads. “We’ve built machine learning tools to help identify accounts that use these services and remove the inauthentic activity.”

Instagram further said that:

“Accounts we identify will receive an in-app message alerting them that we’ve removed the inauthentic activity given to their account from others. We will also ask them to secure their account by changing their password. Accounts that use these types of apps share their username and password, which is sometimes used to give inauthentic likes, follows and comments to others.”

Anyhow, Twitter had faced the same issue as the Instagram bug causes the drop of followers. The company has not said anything further on this issue.
