The Facebook Messenger app for Android and iOS is getting a new dark theme. This is the most popular feature, and Dark Mode has finally come to the Messenger app for Android and iOS.
The dark mode of Facebook Messenger on Reddit was launched few days ago, now made official entry on iOS and Android. For now, user can activate it only by sending the crescent moon emoji in a new conversation.
It’s a clever tactic instead of simply activating the mode through the configuration, for users to actively chat. The mode has launched to face more competition from rivals.
“The dark mode of Messenger provides a lower brightness while maintaining contrast and vitality,” writes Facebook in a blog. “Dark mode reduces the brightness of your phone to use it in low light situations, so you can use the Messenger features you love no matter when or where you are.”
As it is an experimental dark mode only those who send certain emoji can find and activate it. For others, to activate the experimental dark mode of Facebook Messenger, the first thing you have to do is open any chat in the application. It does not have to be a real chat, you will be able to do it with anyone, regardless of who you are talking to.
Next, you have to click on the send emojis button that you will find among the options of the conversation. Once you are in this option, find and click on the moticone of the crescent moon. It is important that this type of moon be specifically and without a smile.
When you send this emoticon, you will see the animation of several moons falling. It is the animation with which Facebook tries to create a new dark theme.
The moment animation ends a screen will appear telling you that you have discovered the dark mode of Messenger. The message appears at the top of the screen, and when you do it you must click on the Activate button in the configuration that you will see inside it.
When you click on the button, you will enter directly into the application settings. In it, activate the dark mode option that you will see that now appears first above all. In case you want to deactivate it later or re-activate it the option will remain there in the configuration.
Messenger is also the first of Facebook’s social applications (Instagram and WhatsApp) to officially get a dark theme.
