Amazon has started working on the AirPods style earphones, as the popularity of “real wireless” headsets continues to soar; all major players in the tech world are scrambling to compete for their competitive advantage.
Apple recently launched the second generation of popular AirPods, and companies like Jaybird, Jabra and Sony are producing strong competitors in this space, and each has several items now, it seems that Amazon wants to join the race.
According to Bloomberg, the technology giant hopes to launch Alexa-enabled earbuds as early as the second half of 2019. Its design and features are similar to those of Apple’s AirPods, but with improved athletic performance.
These true wireless earbuds are one of the most important projects in the Amazon Lab126 hardware division and will fully integrate Alexa voice support. Alexa is getting more and more space in the sector, it has long been a strategic product for Amazon and its development benefits from considerable attention and investments.
It will allow users to view the weather, order products from Amazon, issue commands and take notes anytime, anywhere with hands-free. For those who still actually like to use their hands, these headphones also support body posture, perhaps pat to answer or hang up, skip songs, etc.
The earphones would be another piece that adds to the already long list of Amazon accessories that can be controlled “without hands”.
While the company has entered the smart home space with its Echo line of smart speakers, this new product will be the first to enter the field of portable personal audio. As AirPods is the most popular choice it’s now easy to understand why Amazon is launching something similar for its virtual assistant.
The accessory equipment would be aligned, with a case for recharging, but with a USB-C port. It will be in black and gray colors, and particularly high prices just like their style.
