A Chinese woman carrying several cell phones and a pen drive containing malware was arrested at US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
The criminal complaint identified the woman as 32-year-old Yujing Zhang, who was accused of lying to the Federal Secret Service and entering the restricted area.
A jail document in Florida’s federal district court in Palm Beach said: Zhang tried to enter Mar-a-Lago on Saturday, first introduced herself as a member and saying she was going to the pool despite not having suit on. The on-site duty officer did not find her name on the membership list, but a club manager thought she might be the daughter of a surname member.
When asked if Zhang’s membership was her father, she made a vague answer, and the on-site staff thought it was a language barrier and let her in. So she claimed to be attending a nonexistent event of Sino-American friendship.
After that, she said that she came to participate in the activities of the United Nations Chinese American Association, but the on-site staff found that there was no such activity on the day and confirmed that she was not on the list of people allowed to enter Haihu Manor.
She also told the Secret Service agent Ivanovic that she came to participate and arrived in advance to familiarize herself with the scene and take pictures.
The agent pointed out that Zhang’s reasons were different from those of the Secret Service agents who said that they were going to the swimming pool. She was then taken off the scene and went to the Secret Service to receive questions at the local office.
During the interrogation, Zhang Yujing said that a Chinese friend named “Charles” invited her to come to Shanghai from Palm Beach to participate in the event through WeChat, and could approach President Trump’s family to talk about US-China economic relations.
She carried two passports, four mobile phones, a laptop, an external hard drive and a USB flash drive. With her consent, the agent searched her equipment and initially checked that her USB flash drive contained malware.
He found that the chinese woman had a very good English reading as well as understanding ability.
