direct app

Instagram is shutting down the direct app in the coming weeks, it is a standalone camera-first messaging app used to send the direct Instagram message. Facebook decided to push its strategies to work on more various apps, therefore, they planned to end experimenting. The direct app was made to rival Snapchat on iOS and Android.

a tweet from Direct user Matt Navarra:“In the coming month, we’ll no longer be supporting the Direct app,” Instagram notes in the app itself. “Your conversations will automatically move over to Instagram, so you don’t need to do anything.”

The details were then confirmed by an Instagram spokesperson:

“We’re rolling back the test of the standalone Direct app, We’re focused on continuing to make Instagram Direct the best place for fun conversations with your friends.”

It was first launched in December 2017, the launched right into the camera with various Snapchat filters. You could also swipe down from the top of the screen to type messages to your Instagram contacts. To create a direct app might be the second idea Instagram take an idea from Snapchat. Apart from that, in 2016 it also launched stories feature of its own which is growing since then.

Instagram has not given any reason why they are taking down the app. It initially launched in Chile, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, and Uruguay but then eventually release all across the world. The Instagram spokesperson further added that all the features from Direct app are currently available on Insta, also, the company will continue to work on its features but they will no longer available in a separate app.

When the app was first launched we all expected that it could be the first step to remove messaging from the main Instagram app. Just like Facebook removed the ability to send messages from the Facebook app in 2014 after launching Messenger. Although the message facility is still available in the Instagram app even if it is absent from the website.

For future plans, Facebook wanted to merge the messaging system of Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook. It will allow users to message on any of the above platforms with just one button.
