Amazon two-year-old Instagram competitor is now going to shut down, the decision of closure comes in less than two years since the company has launched Amazon Spark as its social media playback in 2017. The app mainly focused on posting images, stories and ideas about products and purchases, and was originally launched only for Amazon Prime members. Amazon aimed to capitalize on the social shopping trend and wanted to grab the attention of online influencers.
Amazon spark has been a really bland service, unlike on Instagram where people follow their friend, interests, brands like they like, and people they find engaging or inspiring. Spark also focuses on shopping and sale. While the app had copied Instagram aesthetics, it lacked Instagram’s broader appeal. For the time being, Amazon has declined to comment on the shut down of Spark but the service and website have vanished so we presume it ended abruptly.
However, the URL amazon.com/spark leads to another website which greatly resembles another Amazon product discovery tool, Interesting Finds. The website interesting Friend was present since 2016 which offers consumers a way to browse an almost Pinterest-like board of products across a number of categories. Also, it features curated shops presenting niche themes, for example, a Daily Carry shop for notable items, a Mid Century shop filled with furniture and décor, a shop for Star Wars fans, one for someone who loves the color pink, and much more.
Later, interesting finds added a layer of personalization with the introduction of a My Mix shop filled with recommendations tailored to your interactions and likes. Moreover, the site consists of a modern, clean and sleek look which made it a convenient way to browse Amazon products. Products photos appeared on the white background and the clutter of a traditional product detail page was removed.
Users don’t have to worry about their accounts on the spark site as the new #FoundItOnAmazon site has taken inspiration from the spark website & interesting finds and changed it into a new shopping discovery tool. Too, interesting finds covers a wide range of categories but #FoundItOnAmazon will focus more on fashion and home décor. Just like Interesting Finds, you can heart to favorites items and revisit them later.
Amazon has not talked about the ending spark app yet, we guess that it is because Instagram has itself grown into a far more formidable competitor since Spark first launched. Last year, Instagram has come up with a lot of features like the introduction of shopping feature and added a new shopping channel and in March, Instagram launched its own in-app checkout option.
