Regal Cinemas is now launching its own subscription service which will let moviegoers watch an unlimited number of movies. The subscription price will range from $18 to $23.50 a month, depending on the theater location. It is called Regal Unlimited, details were posted on thetheater chain’s website today, and the service is set to launch in less than a week.
Regal Cinemas is the latest company which is offering you an unlimited movie ticket subscription service. They have also published the details of their plans on their website. For a monthly fee, you can see as many movies as you want at Regal theater locations. The subscription lets you into every normal format movie, with no limitations or blackout dates. So unlike many subscription services from third-party channels, you won’t be blocked out of big movies on opening weekend. And like AMC Stubs A-list, you can see the same movie over and over.
You can also reserve advance tickets for up to three movies at a time, as long as their showtimes don’t overlap. Only you can use your subscription, so Regal asks you to submit a photo of yourself to serve as ID. Plus your subscription is tied to your phone, not to log in. So you’ll need to be careful to transfer your subscription when you get a new phone.
Now talking about the costs and expense, you have to pay $18/mo, $21/mo, or $23.50/mo, plus tax. The price totally depends on which theaters you want to use your plan. Here’s the list of locations included in each plan. Thankfully, the plans are otherwise exactly the same. Moreover, the $18 plan covers about 200 locations. The $21 plan covers those, plus about 280 more. But the $23.50 plan covers all those, plus about 75 more.
You can pay $1.50 to see a movie at a theater in the next pricing tier up, or $3 for a theater two tiers up. You can also pay a surcharge for special formats like IMAX and 3D. If you reserve tickets in advance then it will cost you 50 cents per ticket which is less than regal usual advance reservation fee. The only unusual thing is that you have to commit for a year of payment in advance, if you pay monthly, the subscription will auto-renew every month until you cancel.
If you pay the whole year’s price upfront, there’s no discount, but your subscription won’t auto-renew when it runs out. Hopefully Regal won’t screw up and un-cancel people the way MoviePass did. You can skip out occasional reservation but if you miss a lot of reservations without canceling them in the app. The company might decide you’re abusing your account and ban you.
Once you joined regal unlimited you automatically join the crown club, it will give you rewards points for your subscription fees, concession spending, and ticket spending.
