Instagram is testing the switching of the ‘Activity’ tab with the ‘Shop’ tab. Global tests have been commenced since yesterday to add a “shopping” feature to the app which may go in favor of big and small businesses. After tests, in the Instagram app ‘shop’ tab will replace of activity tab.
A new ‘shopping bag’ icon will appear on the navigation menu on the Instagram app which was previously a ‘heart’ icon. This activity tab is not going to be removed from the app instead will be placed at the top right of the feed (right next to the paper airline direct icon) or by visiting the profile and clicking the heart icon by there activity feature will be accessed.
“This is a small global test of the Instagram Shop tab that we announced in May. We’ll use this test to assess how we decide to roll this out further.” A spokesperson from Instagram stated.
This ‘Shop’ tab is appearing is rolling out for selected users currently. The shopping experience was introduced in “May” for users in the United States only. After the success of the test users will be able to enjoy the shopping experience around the globe.
With one tap on the icon, users will enter the Instagram ‘Shop’ section where they can find products of top brands. New addition may have filter options to further improve the search experience for users and let them browse and buy products without leaving the app.
This feature is slightly different from the already present “explore” option. In the shop tab, only products from those brands will appear that the user is already following while explore options shows product wider options.
Instagram app is expected to launch this feature by the beginning of next year and would be available for use globally but the exact date is yet to be decided by the company.
